Wind power in the 12th Five-Year Plan will speed up

The relevant person of the national power grid told "First Financial Daily" that the smart grid will receive 100 million kilowatts of wind power at the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period.

At present, the power reserve is a worldwide problem. Once the energy storage problem is not solved, the instability of the wind power current will be difficult to overcome. Therefore, the grid connection will also be greatly limited and it can only be forced to adopt a wide range of methods. In order to solve the above problems, the State Grid proposed to build an UHV AC backbone network during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period. The grid will connect large coal-fired power stations, large hydropower stations, large nuclear power stations and large-scale renewable energy bases and major load centers.

In 2015, China's non-fossil energy installed capacity will reach 470 million kilowatts, accounting for 32% of the country's total installed capacity. Some analysts believe that under the rapid development of China's wind power industry, if the smart grid construction speed is difficult to achieve synchronization with it, it will curb the development of the wind power industry and affect its end market. According to the progress announced by State Grid yesterday, wind power related industries such as wind power equipment manufacturing companies and wind farm operators will usher in good news.

Lv Ji, president and chief executive officer of the fan tower manufacturer Liaoning Xinxing Group (CTEK, NASDAQ, hereinafter referred to as “Xinxingjiao”) told the newspaper that she was optimistic about this progress in wind power grid integration and believes that this Jiayi’s fan parts manufacturing industry has a certain degree of interest.

Shi Pengfei, deputy director of the Wind Energy Committee of the China Renewable Energy Association, also told this newspaper that the State Grid has explicitly proposed that the wind power grid connection will reach 100 million kilowatts, which is equivalent to directly expanding the market “cake”. After this goal is clearly put forward, related companies in the wind power market will be much less constrained by grid-connected factors. After wind power is connected to the grid to increase speed, the wind farm operators will benefit the most from the five major power groups, as well as large-scale energy companies such as China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group, and Shenhua Group, because the major domestic wind farms are operated by these central enterprises.

However, Zhou Hongyu, an analyst with Dongxing Securities, pointed out that the cumulative installed capacity of wind power in 2010 was 40 million kilowatts, of which about 30% were not connected to the grid and were idle. There are many reasons for this, but it also includes poor coordination between wind farm operators and grid companies. For example, the construction of small-scale wind farms requires high costs for separate power transmission and distribution equipment, and therefore it is necessary to coordinate with power grid companies. However, since the grid companies themselves do not have the economic driving force of the grid connection, even if the grid-connected goals are determined, the actual coordination may not be smooth.

In the wind power equipment manufacturing industry, SMEs are concentrated and competition in the industry is already heating up. The trend of integration and reshuffling is very obvious. Therefore, although the wind power connection rate is increasing year by year, it is difficult to bring benefits to such companies.

Zhou Hongyu said that the current production capacity of the top five leading companies in the wind power equipment manufacturing market has basically matched the market demand, and other SMEs are facing a crisis of survival. It is expected that the industry will be shuffled within two to five years, and the number of integrated wind power equipment manufacturers may not exceed 10 at that time.

Shi Pengfei believes that the real benefit may be gold wind technology, Huarui Wind Power and Dongfang Electric, the three leading equipment supply companies. It is understood that these three companies accounted for 60% of the domestic wind power equipment manufacturing market.
