Marine Jet Power receives waterjet propeller order
Recently, Marine Jet Power received a renewal order for the waterjet propeller for the other three South Korean Navy's Patrol Killer Experimental (PKX-B) missile patrol boats.
Last year, Hanjin Heavy Industries launched the first PKX-B missile patrol boat and is currently conducting a sea trial.
The waterjet propeller ordered this time consists of one MJP 950 single drive and MJP 650 dual drive water jet thruster. The combination of General Electric's 12 000 hp LM 500 gas turbine and Caterpillar (CAT) Marine's 1 900 hp CAT C32 combined diesel and gas turbine will enable the PKX-B missile patrol boat to reach a maximum speed of 40 knots.
It is reported that the 275-ton missile patrol boat has a total length of 44 meters and an overall width of 7 meters, which can carry 20 crew members. The PKX-B missile patrol boat is lighter in weight and faster than the previous generation PKX-A missile patrol boat. The South Korean Navy plans to build a total of 16+18 PKX-B missile patrol boats.
