Japan developed a wave power boat

With the improvement of environmental awareness, various environmental protection equipment came into being. The first to appear is an eco-friendly car powered by air, and now there are ships powered by waves! The 3-ton catamaran "Suntory Mermaid II" will sail from Hawaii to Japan in May 2008. In the process, you may not set any speed record, but as the turtle said: "Slow and steady wins."

The starting point of this special competition is how to use environmentally friendly alternative energy sources. So how does wave power work? It works as shown in the illustration, where a pair of side-by-side fins absorb wave power and pass it into a device like a dolphin. The added benefit of this fin is that it makes the hull more stable because it reacts against the waves. It's like a car driving on a bumpy road, the car's tires are bumping and jumping, and the passenger compartment is very stable. However, why isn't everyone looking at the energy from the shock absorber action? The wave power boat "Suntory Mermaid II" is the latest member of Japan's eco-powered, recycled aluminum-made vessel. The research and development work was initiated by Asahi Shimbun, funded by Suntory and manufactured by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co. .

Qianjiang Qianyi has been an experienced member of the ecological navigation for the past 10 years and is the volunteer captain and crew of this wave-powered ship. During the first flight of the ship in May 2008, Qianjiang Qianyi will depart from Honolulu, Hawaii alone, and travel 4350 miles with wave power to the temporary waters of Japan. This time it was a single-person voyage. For a long time, Qianjiang Qianyi has been actively participating in this ecological power navigation. One of the most famous is that in 1993 he became the farthest person with a pedaling distance (4,660 miles), setting a world record. I bet that when he arrived in Japan, his legs must be very tired.

This time, when Qianjiang Qianyi was commanding a larger ship, his legs could rest well. Unlike the pedal boat, the “Mermaid II” wave power boat features an innovative wave propulsion system that provides a new way for larger vessels to achieve green sailing. Although the ship is sailing very slowly, it is not a big problem for bulk carriers. The maximum speed of the "Mermaid II" is only 5 inches per hour, and it takes 2 to 3 months from Hawaii to Japan. The diesel-powered boat can complete this distance in just one month.

The catamaran, made of recyclable aluminum, is equipped with eight solar panels that produce 560 watts (in the best case) of electrical energy, which can be used to power electric lights and computers and mobile phones on the Qianjiang River. The ship also has an outboard engine and sail, but he can only use the device in an emergency or if the boat is moving too slowly. Qianjiang said: "Petroleum is a limited source of energy, but the wave power is unlimited." This is not only acceptable to surfers.
