Strength is inextricably linked

Recently, Chengxi Shipyard of Shanghai Chengxi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. successfully delivered the 74,000-ton self-unloading ship “Agsey” modified by Canadian Steamship Company (CSL). The successful modification of the ship not only shows the strength of Chengxi Shipyard, but also achieves the indissoluble bond between Chengxi Shipyard and CSL.

The predecessor of the Agassi, the Nayong, is a single-hull tanker with a ship age of more than 20 years. According to the ban issued by the International Maritime Organization, since April 5, 2005, single-hull tankers will be gradually banned from transporting heavy oil such as crude oil, fuel oil, heavy diesel oil or lubricating oil. Therefore, CSL decided to modify the "Nayong" Large self-unloading bulk carriers.

Two years ago, CSL's "Oriental" self-unloading vessel was successfully modified at Chengxi Shipyard. Although the ship's modification project is not large, the Chengzhou Shipyard's rich experience and exquisite craftsmanship in the ship modification left a deep impression on the shipowner. The "Nayong" was refitted, and the ship owner remembered the pleasant cooperation experience and took the initiative to extend the "Olive Branch" to Chengxi.

There is no successful precedent for the modification of such large-scale self-unloading bulk carriers, and the type of ship modification technology is extremely high, the construction is extremely difficult, the structure is extremely complicated, and there is a great risk.

Difficulties

During the modification of the 74,000-ton ship, Chengxi encountered many difficulties.

The new section launching water is the first problem encountered in the 74,000 tons ship modification process. According to the process requirements, new sections weighing about 11,000 tons will be built and closed on the slipway. The newly-made section is relatively wide-spread. In order to reduce the resistance to launching water, the plant decided to adopt a ship-to-drain approach, which is unique in the Chinese shipbuilding industry. Moreover, since the newly produced segment weight is close to the critical point of the load carrying capacity of the station, the consequences are unimaginable in case of problems. The factory organized technicians to repeatedly calculate and experiment, and obtained scientific data, designed a variety of launching methods such as water pressure on the ship's platform, and succeeded in actual combat.

The docking in the floating dock is the second problem in the 74,000-ton ship modification process. First, the cut old segment is pulled out of the floating dock, and the new segment is dragged into the dock to engage the cabin segment. The total length of the new and old sections is more than 200 meters, and it is necessary to work on the narrow river surface at the same time. The room for returning is quite small. Secondly, in the new and old segmentation, if the line type control, the connection is not good, and the error is too large, the weld strength will be insufficient and affect the quality of the ship. In order to prevent this from happening, the factory has strictly controlled the quality of the section, reducing the groove as much as possible and reducing the amount of segmentation. In addition, the cabin segment weighs about 4,000 tons and is concentrated in a small area, greatly testing the carrying capacity of the dock. In order to ensure the load capacity and benchmark accuracy of the shipyard, the factory adopted a method of supporting the crotch with dozens of pipes, newly made two pairs of docking devices, and the old cutting line was surveyed, and then the hoist was fine-tuned. Finally, the new precursor segment and the cabin segment are combined into one.

The self-unloading system installation is the third problem encountered in the ship modification. The bottom of the entire large cabin of the Agassi is like a funnel. The funnel door at the bottom of the large cabin is controlled by a hydraulic system. The clearance cannot exceed 3 mm. The accuracy of the conveyor belt is also very high. Due to the defects of some auxiliary machinery, the installation and commissioning of the equipment is in trouble. With the joint efforts of shipyards, ship owners and equipment suppliers, various problems have been solved.

Three won the "heart"

In order to successfully complete the "Agassi" modification project, the staff of Chengxi Shipyard has made great efforts. Since taking over the ship, the factory has taken it as the number one project. At the same time, a strong general manager and a major team were organized to mobilize a large army of thousands of people with good business, good quality and hard work. They strictly controlled the process requirements and planned construction of production nodes, and organized special labor competitions. In order to ensure the accuracy and quality of the construction, the vast number of employees in the ship repairing and shipbuilding fronts were unfavorable for their fame and fortune. They took the opportunity to reunite the holiday and their loved ones day and night, and exchanged the "Agassi" victory with the unremitting efforts.

The outstanding performance of Chengxi Shipyard has won the high praise of the shipowners. "Agassi" has not yet been shipped, CSL has signed a second 74,000-ton ship conversion contract with Chengxi Shipyard, and also assigned the repair work of six self-unloading ships to Chengxi Shipyard.
