After investigation, it was found that the “eccentric matter” that caused Wu Bin, the “most beautiful driver”, to die, came from the brake hub of a large truck. It was the fragments of the truck’s brake hub that flew out and hit Wu Bin’s master and caused tragedy.

The brake drum is a part of the drum brake system. When the brakes are applied, the piston applies pressure to the two pairs of half-moon brake shoes so that they are in close contact with the inner wall of the drum and friction is generated to stop the rotation of the wheels. The material of the brake hub is generally HT200-300 (ie, gray cast iron). The matrix is ​​mainly composed of pearlite and a small amount of ferrite and cementite. The graphite is mainly grade A, and the shape is a long piece. The length grade is 4 -6 level, play a role in heat dissipation, increase friction performance, reduce brake noise. However, when trucks are braked on long downhill slopes or at high speeds, the hubs are easily heat-treated at high temperatures, resulting in brittle hubs and loss of performance. This is extremely dangerous. This is coupled with the fact that the driver’s inspections are not updated in time, similar to the tragedy of Master Wu Bin. It's inevitable.

In addition to constantly checking for updates, are there other ways to avoid tragedies? The answer is yes! The installation of a retarder on the truck will achieve the most effective on balanced braking and reduce wear on brake pads and tires.

In the new standard of the “Regulations for the Operational Safety of Motor Vehicles” (GB7258), it is clearly stated that more than 12 tons of trucks and dangerous goods carriers will be forced to install retarders or other auxiliary braking devices. After the regulations were put forward, the most discussed issue was the installation of the retarder. In fact, the use of retarders on trucks is not yet widespread, and truck users are still in the acceptance and recognition stage.

For the output speed point, the maximum torque is 30km/h, and the effective speed is 10km/h. As long as the vehicle speed reaches 10km/h, the retarder can exert more than 85% braking effect.
