On October 6, the joint venture of CJ (CheilJedang) and Arkema laid the foundation for a joint project of biological methionine and vulcanization workers in Malaysia. The factory is scheduled to start production by the end of 2013.

The joint project uses Amerma's methyl mercaptan as raw material and uses CJ's industrial biological fermentation process to produce L-methionine. The total investment is about 450 million U.S. dollars, of which CJ builds and operates the bio-methionine plant, and Arkema invests in the construction of a vulcanization plant. Upon completion, it will annually produce 80,000 tons of bio-methionine additives and 50,000 tons of sulfur-containing derivatives.
