US Navy fighters will be equipped with new electronic countermeasures systems by 2015

According to ITT Exelis' website on June 6, 2013, ITT Exelis signed a $125 million contract with the US Naval Air Systems Command to provide the latest model AN/ALQ-214 airborne jammers.

The AN/ALQ-214 airborne jammer is a subsystem of the Integrated Defense Electronic Countermeasure (IDECM) system. Under the contract, Exelis will produce the second batch of AN/ALQ-214 (V) 4/5 systems at full speed. The system includes high-sensitivity digital receivers and active electronic countermeasures to protect aircraft from air defense radars, guided missiles and other threats. The previous AN/ALQ-214 can only be used on the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet. The new ALQ-214 system can be used with both the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet and F/. A-18 C/D Hornet Fighter.

Exelis Vice President and General Manager of the Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems Business Unit said that the new ALQ-214 system is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic protection equipment for combat personnel. The system not only can deal with current and future RF threats, but can also be installed on more platforms to ensure more pilots can safely complete combat missions.

The AN/ALQ-214 IDECM system, deployed on the US Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet, will continue to provide probe-attack protection for future RF threats. The AN/ALQ-214(V)4/5 system will be produced primarily at the Clifton, NJ, facility and is expected to be delivered by 2015.
